Dental Fillings In Loveland

Dental fillings are the best way to treat minor-to-moderate tooth decay

With a filling, you can get rid of tooth pain and sensitivity, and get back to your day-to-day routine

Early intervention is essential for avoiding further complications like a tooth infection, which may require treatment with a root canal and dental crown

Dr. Marlor uses the latest techniques to keep you feeling safe and comfortable throughout your procedure

What are composite fillings?

At our office in Loveland Lakes, Dr. Marlor prefers to fill teeth with composite fillings. These fillings are made out of a special type of dental resin, which is blended with crushed glass to strengthen it. They are a more modern alternative to metal-amalgam (silver) fillings.

The biggest benefit of composite fillings is that they look much more natural. Dr. Marlor can choose a filling that matches your teeth perfectly in color, so your tooth won’t be discolored after treatment, and you can ensure your smile remains bright.

Composite fillings also require the removal of less tooth enamel during the process, and they bond very tightly with your natural enamel, which ensures a long-lasting restoration. For these reasons, we prefer to treat most cavities with composite filling at Loveland Lakes Family Dentistry.

What are the signs that I need a filling?

Not sure if you have a cavity? Wondering if you need a filling? The most common sign of a cavity is tooth sensitivity. You may find that your tooth is sensitive to hot and cold foods and beverages, or to very sugary foods.

In some cases, you may even find that your tooth feels sensitive or sore when you bite and chew. Tooth pain is less common, but can occur in some more advanced cavities.

Only a dentist can determine if you have a cavity, but it may also be possible to see visual indicators of a cavity in a tooth using a hand mirror. If you notice visible, deep pits or holes in the tooth enamel, or you see brown or black stains on a tooth, this could indicate a cavity.

If you notice any of the above issues, you need to see Dr. Marlor right away. Getting early treatment with a filling is the best way to resolve your cavity and prevent complications like tooth infections.

What Can I Expect From my filling treatment?

First, Dr. Marlor will clean and numb the treatment area. Then, he will begin trimming away the decayed enamel from your tooth, preparing it for your filling. Once the tooth has been trimmed, he will select a composite filling material that matches your tooth perfectly, and apply it directly to the cavity.

Then, the composite resin will be sculpted and shaped to fit into your tooth perfectly. When the overall shape is right, Dr. Marlor will harden it with a UV light, then use a dental drill to further refine its shape. Finally, your bite will be checked to make sure the filling fits perfectly, and minor adjustments will be made, if necessary. This completes the procedure, which usually takes only about 30-60 minutes at Loveland Lakes Family Dentistry.
