Preventive dentistry keeps your smile healthy and prevents common issues like cavities and gingivitis (gum disease).

Dr. Christiansen and the team at Loveland Lakes Family Dentistry provide caring, personalized treatment.

At our office, we work with patients of all ages, including kids!

Preventive care helps save you time, money, and stress by catching oral health issues early.

Why Are Regular Teeth Cleanings So Important?

Routine teeth cleanings are important because these appointments give your dental hygienist and Dr. Christiansen an opportunity to thoroughly examine your dental health. Our team will make sure you’re not suffering from any common issues such as decay, gum disease, or teeth grinding. Regular appointments help us keep track of your overall dental health and address any potential concerns.

In addition, cleanings help your smile look its best. We use the latest tools to clean away plaque, tartar, and minor stains. We also buff and polish your teeth to make sure your smile looks great. It is also an ideal time to check for serious health issues like oral cancer to protect your overall health. Come in for a cleaning every six months to keep your smile looking and feeling healthy!

How Do Fluoride Treatments Treat Cavities?

Fluoride treatments may be recommended if you have a “soft spot”, which is the first stage of tooth decay. During this stage of decay, the enamel of the tooth has been weakened, but a cavity has not yet fully developed. Fluoride treatments can help reverse this damage and prevent a cavity from fully forming. This is because fluoride has the unique ability to encourage the remineralization of teeth. Dr. Christiansen will “paint” a fluoride-rich mixture onto your teeth, leave it in place for several minutes, then rinse it away. Then, the fluoride will work to repair and strengthen your tooth, preventing any more damage or cavities.

What Are Dental Sealants?

If you or your child are very prone to cavities, you may want to consider dental sealants. Sealants can protect your teeth from cavities for up to 10 years. They are typically only used on the rear molars and premolars, which are more susceptible to decay. Sealants consist of a special type of dental resin. After your teeth have been cleaned, the resin is applied to each tooth individually, then hardened with a UV light. This creates a clear, strong barrier that surrounds the tooth and provides an additional layer of protection.
